Winyan Press, LLC is an independent publishing house geared at empowering female writers to find their voice. Our mission is to be a positive female presence in the literary world by producing literature that captures the spirit of women in new and engaging ways.
This venture was started by Mindy Marin and Tawa Witko when they began working on Mrs. Marin’s debut novel, Ceaseless: Birth of the Phoenix. The obstacle course of self-publishing was difficult to maneuver successfully and they often joked that they should start a publishing house to help other writers navigate this process. As the dialogue continued they realized that this was no longer a joke but a much needed reality.
The name of the company comes from the Lakota word for woman. In traditional Lakota culture women are honored and cherished as the givers of life. In fact, there is an old Native saying that states, “A Nation is not conquered until the hearts of its women are on the ground. Then it is finished, no matter how brave its warriors or how strong its weapons.” Being that the two women were striving towards empowerment, the name Winyan seemed a natural choice.
The goals of Winyan Press, LLC are simple.
1) To nurture and empower female writers.
2) To encourage all women, young and old, of all nations, creed and sexual orientation, to tell their story.
3) To produce literature that enhances the world around us.
How do we plan on doing this? While we are still new to the process we can say with pride that we now have the capacity to publish our paperbacks and eBooks online through Amazon/Kindle, Barnes & Noble/Nook, Google Books and iBooks. We are also working towards being able to have our catalogue in your general book stores but that is not available just yet. In addition, we are currently establishing book specific marketing strategies to help get individual authors out there.
If you would like information on how to become one of our authors or how to obtain any of our inventories in bulk, please feel free to contact us.
